MISAMIS ORIENTAL (PIA) — The provincial government of Misamis Oriental is strengthening efforts to create more economic opportunities for residents through employment programs, support for micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and tourism development.During The Governor’s Report on July 31, Gov. Juliette T. Uy said the province is working with national government agencies to expand access to jobs, livelihood assistance, business support, and tourism opportunities for Misamisnons.
Uy said providing equal opportunities for employment and livelihood remains one of the provincial government’s priorities. She added that job fairs, livelihood programs, and enterprise assistance initiatives are being expanded to help residents improve their sources of income.The governor also highlighted upcoming cooperative and microfinance programs aimed at helping aspiring entrepreneurs and small business owners build sustainable businesses.She cited partnerships with agencies such as the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Agriculture (DA), Land Bank of the Philippines, and Development Bank of the Philippines in delivering economic programs to communities.
DTI Misamis Oriental Provincial Director Jesusa Abear said the agency will continue working with the provincial government to support MSME development, entrepreneurship, and livelihood programs that strengthen local businesses.One entrepreneur who benefited from local support is Carlyne Pelesco, owner of Carrol’s Barquillos and Barquiron in Villanueva. She said opportunities provided by the provincial government, including product showcases through Negosyo Centers, helped local businesses promote their products beyond the province.
Aside from MSME development, tourism remains a key part of Misamis Oriental’s economic growth plans. Uy said the province recorded an increase in tourist arrivals and continues to promote its “Uniquely MisOr” campaign to encourage visitors to explore destinations across the province.She added that developing tourism sites, including beaches, hot springs, and other natural attractions, can create more livelihood opportunities for local communities.Through continued support for jobs, businesses, and tourism, the provincial government aims to make Misamis Oriental a stronger destination for investment and economic growth.
