CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — The Police Regional Office in Northern Mindanao (PRO-10) has intensified its anti-crime operations under the leadership of Regional Director PBGen Nestor Babagay Jr.During its first 12 days, PRO-10 conducted several operations against illegal drugs, illegal mining, smuggling, loose firearms, illegal gambling, and wanted persons across the region.
Under the Enhanced Managing Police Operations (EMPO), police carried out 104 anti-illegal drug operations, resulting in the arrest of 126 drug suspects and the seizure of 1,141 grams of suspected shabu valued at around P7.7 million.The police also conducted 28 anti-illegal mining operations, arresting 22 individuals and confiscating equipment and materials worth approximately P4.57 million.
Meanwhile, 62 anti-smuggling operations led to one arrest and the seizure of smuggled cigarettes valued at P6.7 million.The campaign against loose firearms resulted in 73 operations, eight arrests, and the confiscation of 71 firearms.
Ten operations against illegal gambling also led to 18 arrests and the seizure of gambling items worth P5,901.In the campaign against wanted persons, authorities arrested 100 individuals, including 32 most wanted persons.
Five members of the Communist Terrorist Group also surrendered, along with three firearms.Security Measures for Diyandi FestivalPRO-10 placed Iligan City under heightened alert throughout September to ensure the safety of residents and visitors during the monthlong Diyandi Festival.
A total of 91 personnel from the Regional Mobile Force Battalion-10 and 58 newly assigned police personnel will be deployed to the city.The PNP is coordinating with the Iligan City Government, Task Force Iligan, and other security groups to secure 125 minor events and eight major activities during the celebration.
Strict Action Against Police MisconductBabagay also stressed that police misconduct will not be tolerated.Two personnel from Police Station 7, who were reportedly involved in an alleged act of lasciviousness, were placed under restricted custody.
A case was filed before the Office of the City Prosecutor on September 1, 2026.In a separate rape case involving police training officers, two counts under the Anti-Rape Law were filed before the Regional Trial Court in Cagayan de Oro City.
The accused are currently detained at the Misamis Oriental Provincial Jail.An administrative case is also ongoing against six field training officers, while termination proceedings have been initiated against personnel and recruits allegedly involved in serious violations of training rules.
“We will not tolerate wrongdoings, and due process will be properly observed according to the rules,” Babagay said.PRO-10 said it will continue strengthening police visibility, patrols, checkpoints, intelligence operations, and community engagement to maintain peace and order in Northern Mindanao.
Babagay also reminded the public that preventing crime requires cooperation between law enforcement and the community.
