OZAMIZ CITY, Misamis Occidental (PIA) — Ozamiz City Mayor Sam Norman Fuentes highlighted the city government’s efforts to improve public services through free hospitalization, job creation, and expanded educational assistance during his first State of the City Address (SOCA) on July 14.
Fuentes reported that the city has resumed the Asenso Ozamiz Free Hospitalization Program in partnership with the Provincial Government of Misamis Occidental, providing medical support to qualified patients admitted to accredited private hospitals.He said the program reflects the city’s commitment to making healthcare services more accessible to residents.The mayor also shared that more than 13,000 jobs were created during the first half of 2026 following the registration of 252 new businesses, which brought in over P346 million in investments and provided employment opportunities for residents.
To support students, the city allocated funding for educational assistance programs, including the One Family, One Professional Program and the Asenso Ozamiz Scholarship Program, benefiting more than 1,300 students pursuing higher education.Aside from health, employment, and education initiatives, Fuentes also cited the city’s burial assistance programs and continued investments in infrastructure, agriculture, and fisheries to improve services and support local communities.
He added that stronger local revenue collection has helped the city sustain programs and provide more accessible assistance to residents.The SOCA was attended by local officials, government agencies, private sector representatives, civil society groups, and development partners, highlighting the city’s continued collaboration toward development.
