OROQUIETA CITY, Misamis Occidental — Irrigators in Misamis Occidental thanked the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) for its continued support while raising concerns about irrigation facilities and the needs of farming communities.
Members of the Misamis Occidental Federation of Irrigators’ Associations Inc. (MOCOFFIA) met with NIA Administrator Engr. Eddie G. Guillen during his visit to the province on Sept. 14.MOCOFFIA President Edwin A. Gamolo said farmers appreciate NIA’s efforts to bring its programs and services closer to agricultural communities.
He also expressed hope for continued assistance to help improve farmers’ livelihoods.Guillen said the concerns raised by irrigators should be followed by concrete action and solutions to address their needs.During the visit, Guillen also inspected the Tudela-Clarin Diversion Weir to assess its condition, rehabilitation needs, and possible expansion of irrigation coverage.
The facility was heavily damaged during a shear line event in December 2022, affecting irrigation water delivery to farming areas.NIA officials also discussed with local officials and irrigators’ groups the management of irrigation facilities, capacity-building, and ways to support agricultural production in the province.
