THE HAGUE, Netherlands — Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte appeared in person before the International Criminal Court (ICC) on Wednesday, September 16, marking his first public appearance since he was transferred to The Hague in March 2025.
Duterte attended the hearing as the ICC considered matters related to his ability to participate in the proceedings. His trial is currently scheduled to begin in November.
During the hearing, Duterte remained silent and was seen seated in the courtroom. He also acknowledged members of his family who were present in the public gallery.
Duterte faces ICC allegations involving crimes against humanity, including murder, connected to the killings allegedly committed during the period covered by the court’s case. The charges remain allegations to be determined through the judicial process.
His appearance marked a significant public return after 18 months in ICC detention.
