DTI Helps Northern Mindanao Businesses Tap Into Growing Halal Market

ILIGAN CITY — The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) is encouraging micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Northern Mindanao to secure Halal certification to help them reach more customers and explore bigger markets.

During the Halal Trade Expo 2026 in Iligan City, DTI highlighted the importance of supporting local businesses in producing Halal-certified products that can meet the growing demand from Muslim consumers in the Philippines and abroad.DTI Undersecretary Blesila A. Lantayona said the country has strong potential to join the global Halal market by using its agricultural resources and strengthening its MSME sector.

She said 13 MSMEs in Northern Mindanao have already received Halal certification from late 2025 to 2026, allowing them to serve more consumers and gain opportunities in new markets.Among the certified businesses are food producers, restaurants, cafés, resorts, and coconut product manufacturers from Iligan City and Lanao del Norte.

DTI also recognized local efforts, including Iligan City’s Halal Council, Halal Lanes, and Lanao del Norte’s programs supporting Halal industry growth.DTI Lanao del Norte Provincial Director Jane Marie Tabucan said Halal certification can help businesses attract Muslim customers and expand their market reach, although companies must still meet other requirements when entering international markets.

The agency continues to provide support through training, technology assistance, certification programs, and trade activities to help local enterprises grow.With the rising demand for Halal products worldwide, DTI aims to help Northern Mindanao MSMEs become more competitive and create new business opportunities.
