BOC, PNP PRO9 Strengthen Fight Against Smuggling in Region IX

ZAMBOANGA CITY — The Bureau of Customs-Port of Zamboanga (BOC-POZ) and the Philippine National Police Regional Office 9 (PNP PRO9) are strengthening their cooperation to combat smuggling and other border-related crimes across the Zamboanga Peninsula and Sulu.

The commitment was highlighted during the PNP PRO9 Flag Raising Ceremony and Awarding Program held at Camp Colonel Romeo A. Abendan on Sept. 7, where BOC District Collector Atty. Manuel Oliva Zurbito Jr. served as guest speaker.Zurbito emphasized the PNP’s important role in helping the Bureau of Customs protect the country’s borders and enforce anti-smuggling laws.

He also thanked PRO9 personnel for their continued support in joint land and maritime enforcement operations.PNP PRO9 Regional Director PBGen. Elmer E. Ragay welcomed the continued partnership and reaffirmed the police force’s support for government efforts against illicit trade and other transnational crimes.

The two agencies said stronger coordination will help improve border security, prevent smuggling activities, and protect communities throughout Region IX.The event also recognized PRO9 personnel for their exemplary service and contributions to law enforcement and public safety.
