Following the first BARMM Parliamentary Elections on September 14, reports circulated on social media claiming that the BARMM Grand Coalition (BGC) and the United Bangsamoro Justice Party (UBJP) would form a coalition to create the first elected Government of the Day, which will serve until 2031.
A coalition is needed to form a majority in the Bangsamoro Parliament, which will vote for the next Chief Minister of the regional government.However, reports of a possible BGC-UBJP coalition were described as having no basis, with some of the claims reportedly coming from social media vloggers.
The reports came as Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal “Bombit” Adiong, Secretary-General of the BGC, Basilan Vice Governor Jim Hataman-Salliman, and other local leaders expressed support for Interim Chief Minister and Member of Parliament-elect Abdulraof Macacua to continue leading BARMM.
Adiong said he believes Macacua could receive the support of fellow Parliament members for the Chief Minister position.Adiong’s SIAP Party won six district seats in the recent elections and is part of the BGC.
Meanwhile, Bangsamoro Federalist Party (BFP) spokesperson and Cotabato City district representative-elect Atty. Naguib Sinarimbo said the party has 32 members elected to Parliament from different parts of the region.
Sinarimbo said the BFP is prioritizing discussions and possible coalitions with political parties that share its goals for the Bangsamoro.
The party is currently holding talks with other groups that won seats in the 2026 BARMM elections as preparations continue for the opening of Parliament in October.
According to Sinarimbo, the BFP could potentially reach 56 members through alliances with other political parties. At least 41 members are needed to form a majority in the 80-member Parliament.
The coalition-building process is expected to continue as political parties negotiate and discuss possible alliances ahead of the opening of the Bangsamoro Parliament on October 30, 2026.
