BARMM Inflation Hits 8.8% as BSP Urges Households to Watch Spending

MARAWI CITY — Inflation in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) rose to 8.8% in August, up from 8.1% in July, as food and transport costs continued to push prices higher.

Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) official Baronnento S. Gervacio urged households to prioritize basic needs, delay nonessential purchases, and look for small ways to earn extra income.

He also suggested walking for short trips when practical to help cut transportation costs.The Philippine Statistics Authority said food and nonalcoholic beverages recorded 9.1% inflation, contributing 91.2% to the region’s inflation increase.

Transport inflation also climbed to 22.1%.Gervacio said BARMM’s inflation is largely supply-driven, with transportation and logistics affecting the availability and prices of goods brought in from other areas.

In Lanao del Sur, inflation rose further to 10% in August from 9.7% in July. Rice inflation remained high at 14%, while fish and seafood prices posted 13% inflation.
