BARMM Candidate’s House in Lamitan Attacked; Relative Wounded in Shooting

LAMITAN CITY, Basilan — The house of a candidate in the upcoming Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Parliamentary Election was fired upon by unidentified gunmen on Friday night, September 11, leaving the candidate’s son-in-law injured.

The victim was identified as Halid Dompol Mujanil, 34, a businessman and resident of Sitio Riverside, Barangay Matibay.

According to police reports, Mujanil was outside the gate of the house and talking on his cellphone when motorcycle-riding suspects stopped and opened fire at around 7:20 p.m.Authorities recovered several empty shells from a 9mm pistol at the scene.

Mujanil was immediately brought to a hospital for treatment, while police continue their investigation to identify the suspects and determine the motive behind the attack.

Police said there is currently no confirmed evidence linking the shooting to politics or the upcoming September 14 BARMM Parliamentary Election.
