OROQUIETA CITY — Schools and emergency responders in Oroquieta City strengthened their disaster preparedness through a nationwide school safety drill aimed at protecting students, teachers, and school personnel during emergencies.
The local government, educators, and responders joined the National Simultaneous School Safety Drill at Misamis Occidental Science and Technology High School to test the school’s emergency plans and response system.
Mayor Lemuel Meyrick M. Acosta emphasized the importance of preparing the school community for possible emergencies, saying that readiness can help save lives.The drill simulated an emergency situation where the school’s Incident Management Team activated safety measures, including lockdown procedures, evacuation, first aid response, and communication with authorities and parents.
Emergency responders also participated in the activity to assess coordination, while post-emergency measures such as student-parent reunification and psychosocial support were tested.
Acosta said school safety requires teamwork among schools, government agencies, responders, and the community to create a safer learning environment for everyone.
