ILIGAN CITY — The Department of Agriculture (DA) is strengthening the country’s Halal food industry by improving agricultural production, supporting farmers, and helping businesses access bigger markets.During the launch of the Halal Trade Expo 2026, DA Undersecretary Zamzamin L. Ampatuan said agriculture plays an important role in building the Halal industry because farmers provide the raw materials needed by food processors and businesses.
He explained that increasing the production of crops, livestock, and fishery products will help ensure a stable supply of Halal food for Filipino consumers while creating more opportunities for farmers and entrepreneurs.The DA is working with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and other government agencies to strengthen the entire Halal value chain, from production and processing to certification, marketing, and export.
Ampatuan said the program also aims to address shortages of basic Halal food products, particularly chicken, beef, and goat meat, while supporting the country’s food security goals.He added that stronger agricultural production can help farmers earn more by connecting them with Halal processors, retailers, and potential buyers.
The DA emphasized that Halal development should go beyond certification by ensuring products are high-quality, affordable, and available in larger quantities.With continued support from government agencies, businesses, farmers, and communities, the DA aims to expand the Philippine Halal industry, create more livelihood opportunities, and increase access to local and international markets
