CALAMBA, Misamis Occidental (PIA) — Four children rescued from a suspected online sexual abuse and exploitation of children (OSAEC) case in Calamba, Misamis Occidental are now receiving protection and recovery services from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)-10.
The children, including two toddlers and one child with a disability, were rescued during a joint entrapment operation on July 25 that led to the arrest of a 22-year-old suspect allegedly involved in online exploitation of minors.The operation was conducted by the Philippine National Police Women and Children Protection Center (PNP-WCPC) Mindanao Field Unit after an undercover investigator identified the suspect through online monitoring activities.
Following the rescue, DSWD-10 provided psychosocial support and other interventions through its Recovery and Reintegration Program for Trafficked Persons. The Calamba Municipal Social Welfare and Development Office also assisted in case management and arranged temporary shelter for the children.
DSWD-10 said it continues to work with local government units and partner agencies to ensure the children’s safety, healing, and recovery while authorities continue investigating the case.Regional Director Glofelia J. Uayan emphasized that protecting children goes beyond rescue operations, as survivors need continued support, care, and a safe environment to recover from their experiences.Authorities are also conducting further investigation, including digital forensic examination of electronic devices, to determine the extent of the alleged exploitation and identify possible additional victims.
The DSWD reminded the public that online sexual abuse and exploitation of children is punishable under Republic Act No. 11930, while cases involving trafficking may also be covered under Republic Act No. 11862.The agency encouraged the public to report suspected cases of child abuse, exploitation, and trafficking to proper authorities to help protect children and prevent further harm.
